Carbon Footprinting

 

“Carbon Footprinting” is carried out using approaches similar to those described for life cycle assessment (LCA), but with the focus solely upon the greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from the lifecycle of the product, process or service. 

LCAworks has extensive experience of carrying out carbon foot printing for a variety of products, and can do so to the most recent PAS2050 standards.Carbon foot printing builds on existing life cycle assessment methods established through BS EN ISO 14040 and BS EN ISO 14044 by considering and applying requirements specifically for the assessment of GHG emissions in the life cycle of products, processes and services.

The PAS2050 standard further clarifies requirements in relation to the assessment of GHG emissions of goods and services, and establish particular principles and techniques, including:

a) cradle-to-gate and cradle-to-grave GHG emissions assessment data as part of the life cycle GHG emissions assessment of goods and services;

b) scope of greenhouse gases to be included;

c) criteria for global warming potential (GWP) data;

d) treatment of emissions and removals from land use change and biogenic and fossil carbon sources;

e) treatment of the impact of carbon storage in products and offsetting;

f) requirements for the treatment of GHG emissions arising from specific processes;

g) data requirements and accounting for emissions from renewable energy generation.
